Diploma in Women and Gender Studies
Course Overview
Gender equality and women’s empowerment are central to sustainable development and were recognized as Goal 3 of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which United Nations member states committed to achieving by 2015. Despite progress, women worldwide continue to face underrepresentation, discrimination, and marginalization based on gender.
This course provides an in-depth exploration of gender issues in development, emphasizing the critical role gender equality plays across various sectors, including education, economy, politics, health, agriculture, labor, and poverty reduction. Participants will engage with key theories, concepts, and analytical debates in gender and development while also gaining practical skills applicable to real-world challenges.
By the end of the course, learners will be equipped to critically assess gender disparities, understand their impact on development, and explore strategies for achieving gender-inclusive progress. The course also prepares participants for careers as gender specialists or program managers in organizations and development projects.
